Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
