In total, the former Premier League footballers have secured 15 big trophies and moved for combined transfer fees of around £123m.

Stephen Ireland began turning out for the side during pre-season this season through good friend and present team teammate Blake Norton, and the former Irish player then asked additional former professionals, who all play in a midweek small-sided match, to join in.

"It's a little different but then, I love running and just go inside - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"The movement is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

'Surreal Experience

In addition to the forward's 6 goals on debut, Stephen Ireland has netted eight in 3 appearances for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored 5 on his first appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a triple in one game up front.

The team are top of the Premier Division with three victories from three and a GD of +19.

One opponent, thirty-eight, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced former Wigan defender Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his nine-year-old boy who Heskey was.

He has appeared at two World Cups for Honduras, in addition to featuring in over 200 Premier League matches.

"The news was spreading like wildfire they had all these former top-flight players," remarked Barrow.

"I felt I was a little awestruck facing him to be honest.

"Even Heskey got on and he's got 60-odd England appearances.

"We held our own for a solid 20 mins but then we had a man dismissed and it was hard.

"Our group literally haven't ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mother and brother on the journey home.

"They were all friendly, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a group of regular guys.

"Now we are eager for the return match."
